Sir John Ross

1777-1856
John Ross was a British naval officer who led an unsuccessful search for the Northwest Passage in 1818 and then returned several years later and spent four winters in the Canadian Arctic.

Henry Morton Stanley

1841-1904
Welsh-born Henry Morton Stanley began his career as an explorer by heading an expedition that "found" David Livingstone.  He went on to lead three expeditions that traced the course of the Congo River and the great lakes of central Africa.
