Ca. 1911. Loose watercolour on paper ca. 13,5x22,5 cm (5 ¼ x 9 in). Period pencil caption “Honolulu” on verso. Remnants of an old mount on verso, otherwise a very attractive watercolour.
Attractive watercolour view of Honolulu by a female artist, apparently during a cruise around South Pacific in summer 1911. The other watercolours from the same voyage show Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, etc. The Honolulu view shows the city waterfront with still one or two-storey buildings; a sailing ship is anchored in the harbour. The Brown cone of the Diamond Head and greenish and blueish ridges of the Koolau Mountains complete the view. A lovely view of the early 20th-century Honolulu.
